United Veterans of Maine is pleased to offer assistance to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice by serving in the armed forces for our great country. Our organization plays a pivotal role in helping those individuals who need it the most. We offer three different types of assistance, all of which have minimum requirements that must be met before an application is to be submitted and processed by us. They are:
- a.) The veteran must have served at least 180 days of active duty service in the Uniformed Services of the United States.
- b.) The veteran must have received an Honorable or “General under Honorable Conditions” discharge from the Uniformed Services of the United States, and can provide a copy of their DD-214 if requested or verification of discharge from the Department of Veterans Affairs within five (5) business days of the application date.
- c.) The veteran must not have been convicted in a state or federal court of the following types of offenses: Arson, Assault or Aggravated Assault, Manslaughter, Murder, Robbery or Sexual Offenses of ALL sorts. Additionally, the veteran must acknowledge that no active wants or warrants are in place against them in any jurisdiction of the United States.
- d.) United Veterans of Maine will conduct a background check on the applicant to ensure they do not have any wants, warrants or any of the aforementioned convictions to disqualify that person from receiving services. This is done to protect the integrity of our organization and set a standard of fairness.
United Veterans of Maine offers transportation assistance to veterans who are in need to get to the airport, an appointment, bus terminal or other treatment facility. Please remember that transportation is provided on the basis of availability and personnel.
We do encourage you to fill out an application for transportation assistance if it is needed. Please remember that resources are provided on the basis of availability, and submitting an application does not guarantee a person receiving assistance.
In essence, if the resources are available and United Veterans of Maine finds the applicant being eligible for help, we will do it. If we are unable to help, we will promptly inform the applicant and inform them of other resources in the county, if our organization has exhausted all our connections.
If you, or a veteran you know is in Aroostook County and needs transportation assistance, please download the application, fill it out completely and we will get back to you as soon as possible. You may submit your application to us by postal mail or e-mail as an attachment. The information is listed below:
